Brighton Murals

Case Study

Fellini Trattoria & Bar,
115 Church Road, Hove. 2012

The brief: This Italian restaurant pays homage to legendary film maker Federico Fellini, a theme reflected in the choice of subject for the mural. Having seen my illustrated Brighton map (case study 2 on this site), the manager suggested his home city of Rome would make a great subject, and I was inclined to agree.

Between us we determined the area of the city which would both fit the available space well and be most relevant to Fellini’s work. Two important Fellini landmarks were included: Via Margutta, and the Trevi Fountain. The latter is represented by Anita Ekberg dancing in the fountain: a famous scene from Fellini’s best known film, La Dolce Vita.

I used the restaurant’s existing colour palette and branding as a guide for the colours of the mural and the work was completed over a period of ten days.
